Get an inside look at how the City of Chicago invests in its artists, cultural workers, and creative economy in this CAPX Talk (company presentation) with the Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events (DCASE). As Chicago’s central arts agency, DCASE leads citywide initiatives, including public art, festivals, grants, and film production services.
This session is valuable for students across creative disciplines, including those in Fine Art, who want to learn how to access artist-focused resources, city-funded opportunities, and pathways to sustain a creative practice in Chicago. Whether you’re an emerging artist, cultural worker, or aspiring arts administrator, you’ll gain insight into how DCASE supports artists and creatives through grants, public programs, and career-building initiatives across the city’s 77 neighborhoods.
This CAPX Talk is ideal for students interested in fine art, arts administration, public programming, cultural policy, community arts, and event production.
About the speaker:
Laura Trejo Lozano (MAAAP 2013), Program Director at DCASE, will share how the department collaborates with artists and cultural organizations throughout the city. She’ll also discuss opportunities to explore careers in civic arts leadership and public service, as well as current initiatives and the role of public institutions in shaping cultural life in Chicago.
Career and Professional Experience (CAPX) events are open to SAIC students, alums, faculty, and staff. For access requests, including ASL interpretation or audio description, visit saic.edu/access.
