Hello, ATS students. I thought it possible that some of you might be interested in a class I am offering this Winter Semester in the Sound Department. It is called “Special Topics: Experimental Acoustics Studio”. This class is a practical exploration of the the science of sound, sonic perception, and acoustics-based artwork. We will discuss the material properties of sound, and the sonic properties of material. Please let me know if you have any questions.
Here is the description:
Explore the physical and psychoacoustic dimensions of sound as an art material. Human perception and measurement of the size, power, speed, and color of sonic energy will be described and dissected. The effects of distance, location and architectural materials and environments will be presented. Workshops, exercises and projects will provide hands-on opportunities to experiment with techniques and technologies for sound amplification, isolation, absorption, and illusion within the context of art-making.
