May 5 and May 6 creative listening events, online and in Milwaukee

Hello, here’s a brief reminder of two events…please pardon the short notice.

On Tuesday, May 5, a new experimental listening event co-sponsored by the Midwest Society for Acoustic Ecology, in partnership with the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, presents the Great Lakes Listening Series, presenting multichannel sonic artworks within a cinema space. The 2-hour inaugural program will be hosted by the Union Cinema at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, with support from the Midwest Society for Acoustic Ecology and the UWM Department of Film, Video, Animation and New Genres. Please note, this event runs from 7:00 to 9:00 PM, not all day as stated in the newsletter.

Secondly, Wednesday, May 6 is the first day of a free 12-week online course on sound and audio, delivered by Professor Emeritus Barry Truax, a renowned electroacoustic composer, author, and World Soundscape Project researcher at Simon Fraser University. To participate, please find the details on both of these opportunities, and more, from the Midwest Society for Acoustic Ecology (MSAE) newsletter: https://mailchi.mp/bb275ea844a7/29_april_2026-13910079

Or, email Barry directly at truax@sfu.ca to join the online course. Mention my name so he knows.

If you’re interested in getting a ride up to Milwaukee with me tomorrow afternoon, please call or text me today or Tuesday morning at 773-342-5012.

My best,
Eric
