Join us at Flatline Gallery this Thursday from 6:30 to 7:30 for Nothing Is Wasted: A Material Afterlife Lab is a hands-on artist talk with artist and designer Val Rose Thompson of Valaurel Studios exploring mycelium furniture, material afterlives, and the ecology of everyday objects.
Participants will handle mycelium-composite samples at different stages of processing, compare texture, density, strength, and evidence of growth, and learn how substrate, fungal species, form, and post-processing shape the material. The evening will also include a collaborative material-mapping exercise tracing where everyday objects come from, how they are transformed, and where their materials go after use.
Developed in response to Flatlines ongoing exhibition, Death by Landscape, the program considers domestic objects not as permanent commodities, but as temporary ecological relationships shaped by growth, decay, reuse, and transformation.
Proceeds from the event will support the launch of Val Rose Thompson’s mycelium-grown furniture collection. Refreshments are included.
