PTRG 2025/2026 Season Invitation 9/10 at 11:15 in MC B1-07

PTRG is starting up again for the new academic year. We’ll start the new season by reflecting on what we have done so far and starting to get organized around new project ideas. So please feel encouraged to drop by and talk tech with us at lunch on Wednesdays this semester (up to date meeting times can be found on the agenda linked below). Send me an email if you want to Zoom in, and I’ll be sure to open a portal.

What: The Performance Technology Research Group (PTRG) is an informal gathering of people (students, faculty, staff, alumni, etc) who are interested in sharing skills and enthusiasm for technology that can be used in composition, performance, installation, etc. In the past, we have supported the sharing of individual work, presentations of techniques and technologies, and workshops in addition to developing large-scale projects that tend to span multiple semesters. These take advantage of the various skills of the people in the group to develop and disseminate stable designs that can be accessed outside of our group.

Examples of PTRG Projects

  • The Betweener (2016 - 2020) - A Eurorack-compatible USB/DIN MIDI/CV converter that is fully customizable through the Arduino language
  • PTRG Teensy Audio Platform Mk1 (2023 - present) - a microcontroller audio platform for developing sound synthesis, recording, and effects processors using code in the Arduino language
  • Wavefield Synthesis Arrays (2024 - present) - massive multichannel speaker boxes designed to create acoustic holograms using wavefront reconstruction techniques

When: Most Wednesdays during the Fall Semester from 11:15 - 12:15 (see linked agenda for details)

Where: Meet in the EK Lab (MacLean B1-07) with some sessions in the Multichannel Room (MacLean 522)

Who: Anyone who is interested in using technology for performance or creation of art, sound, etc
